  1. Paint Hives with Bees' favourite colours.

I have painted my hives light blue and light yellow. It looks perfect for my garden, and as per the scientists, they are some of bees' favourite colours too. Bees are most attracted to blue, purple, and violet flowers, as well as yellow and white. They can also see ultraviolet light, which many flowers utilise for nectar guides. Bees also see yellow, blue, and green, so you can use water-based paint to paint your hive with these colours. Bees can't perceive red, which appears to them as a dark colour.

Here's a more detailed scientific explanation:

• Blue, purple, and violet: These colours are highly attractive to bees because they are often associated with high nectar production. Flowers in this colour range are commonly found where bees are the primary pollinators.

• Yellow and white: Bees are also drawn to yellow and white flowers. These colours are often visible to bees, and many plants rely on bees for pollination by utilising these hues.

• Ultraviolet: Bees can see ultraviolet light, which is not visible to humans. Many flowers emit ultraviolet light that leads bees directly to the nectar.

But not red! Bees lack the photoreceptor to see red light, so it appears as a dark colour to them. That means if you need to open any hives at night, use a red-coloured light. Any light covered in a red transparent cellophane wrap should do the trick. As for bees, it is still as dark as night.
